In the US state of Arkansas, Conway Corporation plans to implement an advanced metering infrastructure to improve its water and electricity services.
In a press statement, the utility company said it will install advanced electric meters, smart water meters as well as a two-way mesh radio network and communication modules to provide connectivity to the new metering infrastructure.
In addition, the electric, water and telecommunications company will deploy a technology to remotely control and operate its streetlights in real-time and a meter data management system to store and process data from smart water and electric meters.
The project will be deployed in partnership with utility consulting firm MW Consulting and is expected to place Conway as the ‘smartest city in the world.’
Richard Arnold, CEO of Conway Corporations, commented: “This project provides a continued vision to enhance operational excellence and customer service through an advanced metering solution.
“Once fully deployed and in addition to the obvious immediate benefits, Conway Corp will use the platform to optimise its infrastructure and resource planning and provide future enhanced services to our customers.”
The project is expected to help Conway Corporations to improve its revenue collection through accuracy in billing.
Arnold said the two-way mesh radio network is open-standard and will allow the utility to integrate its services with third party technologies to create new revenue streams and improve its customer services and experience.
The news follows the launch of the company’s 1 Gigabit internet service for residential customers in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Commenting on the launch of the I Gigabit internet service, Arnold, said: “…We will soon be positioned to look into the project’s next phase where we want to explore the ability to leverage this infrastructure in the delivery of electricity, water and street lighting services to our customers.”
Communications and metering infrastructure
Meanwhile, Florida-based utility cooperative Clay Electric signed energy management firm Landis+Gyr for the supply and installation of a smart meter communications network.
Under the deal, the solutions provider will integrate its advanced metering infrastructure solution Gridstream within the utility’s energy distribution network to provide connectivity between the energy provider and its smart meters and grid devices.
The deployment of the AMI network together with some 173,000 smart meters is set to begin in June through to 2019. Read more…
