US utility Con Edison selected consulting firm ICF for the planning and management of its energy efficiency programmes for residential customers.
In a statement, Con Edison said it signed a $13.6 million contract for ICF to design and market the utility’s energy efficiency programmes for residential consumers for the next three years.
The consulting firm will help the utility manage its call centre operations and other IT services.
Under the energy efficiency programmes, Con Edison will provide its residential customers in New York city and Westchester county with incentives for installing energy efficient HVAC systems, lighting, appliances and smart thermostats.
By deploying the programmes, Con Edison is aiming to help its residential consumers reduce their energy costs at the same time reduce energy demand and avoid investing in new energy generation infrastructure.
The energy conservation initiatives will help the utility reduce its reliance on fossil-fueled energy generation and carbon footprint by improving integration of grid network with renewable energy resources.
Con Edison and ICF have been working together on energy efficiency programmes for over ten years.
Energy savings by commercial, industrial and residential consumers
In late March, Con Edison announced energy savings achieved through its energy efficiency programmes deployed in 2016.
The utility said its energy efficiency measures implemented in 2016 helped reduce consumer energy bills and carbon emissions, as well as improved the utility’s customer services.
In total, the energy provider saved 160, 200 megawatt hours and 266, 500 dekatherms of gas equivalent to removing 23,000 cars from the road.The utility firm provided $40.8 million in incentives for the installation of energy efficient HVAC, lighting, building energy management and other energy conservation systems for its consumers.
$4.9 million was issued to commercial and industrial customers whilst small business and owners of multi-family buildings received $19.9 million and $10.9 million in incentives, respectively.
$5.1 million in incentives were issued to Con Edison’s residential consumers.
Since the introduction of the company’s energy efficiency incentives in 2009, Con Edison has provided more than $280 million for the installation of low energy consuming appliances.
