The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking candidates for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions in Lasers, Plasmas and Fusion Energy at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels. Applications are invited from candidates in the diverse areas of lasers and plasmas, with emphasis on the overall excellence, originality, and promise of the candidate’s work as evidenced by the impact, quality, and recognition of his or her scientific contributions and short- and long-term research goals. The Department has excellent teaching and research programs in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Engineering Physics, with long-standing strength in the areas of lasers and plasmas. Successful candidates will be expected to supervise graduate students and must also demonstrate a commitment to teaching in their fields of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate level.
This call for applications is part of a continuing thrust to build an expanded program in lasers and plasmas that will emphasize fusion energy systems and applications, but could also include diversified applications such as laser processing of materials, plasma-based semiconductor manufacturing, and the use of lasers in medical biophysics and surgery. As we build this advanced program, the Department recognizes that our people are and will continue to be our greatest strength. Candidates must have earned a PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics or a closely related area. Hiring preference will be given to candidates possessing an extensive record of publication in high-quality, reputable, peer-reviewed journals. Consideration will also be given to conference papers and books or book chapters with demonstrated impact and which have garnered international recognition. In addition, preference will be given to candidates providing evidence of established and respected research and teaching skills, and who have a demonstrated record of service at the departmental, institutional, national, and/or international levels. Successful candidates will also be required in due course to become licensed professional engineers in the Province of Alberta.
