Energy management solutions firm Landis+Gyr secured WI-SUN certification for its technology used in automated metering infrastructure solution, Gridstream.
In a press statement, the solutions provider said the WI-SUN certification approves that its meter connectivity technology is able to securely connect utilities smart grid networks.
The company adds that certification also proves the ability of Landis+Gyr’s network to add an increased number of utility applications including energy efficiency, grid management and smart cities.
The certification follows the deployment of Landis+Gyr’s radio technology in more than 7 million smart grid IoT devices globally. [Landis+Gyr secures UL green light for smart meters].
Landis+Gyr and smart meter connectivity
Meanwhile, the Swiss multinational energy management and metering solutions firm agreed with smart meters manufacturer TransData to enhance its automated metering solutions portfolio.
Under the deal, Landis+Gyr will use TransData’s smart meter patents to allow wireless smart meter connectivity.
In a press statement, TransData explained that its patents are designed to equip digital electric meters with an internal wireless communication circuit and antenna for wireless meter data communication.
The selection of TransData’s patents by the firm marks an increase in the usage of the patents by leading global manufacturers of smart meters, says TransData.
In late February, Mexican state-owned electric utility company Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) awarded Landis+Gyr a contract to supply an AMI system.
Under the terms of the agreement, Landis+Gyr will supply its Gridstream automated metering infrastructure solution, including RF mesh network and advanced meters in the states of Campeche and Quintana Roo in CFE’s Peninsular Division.
The deal also includes the installation of network equipment and nearly 96,000 advanced meters in the region.
The technology upgrades are aimed at reducing non-technical distribution line losses, improving efficiency and enhancing service delivery to high-use consumers in the region.
To address CFE’s smart grid requirements, Landis+Gyr partnered with SistinDacema TMX, a local EPC that will manage installation and support of the network, meters, and head-end software.
