US utility Georgia Power and homebuilding firm PulteGroup have announced their partnership with innovation companies including Mercedez Benz and Sunverge Corporation in their Smart Neighbourhood project in Atlanta.

The partnership with the multiple companies will enable households to be integrated with some of the latest home innovation technologies to help consumers live smart, according to a statement.

Mercedez Benz Energy will provide its home energy storage batteries which consumers will use to store solar energy at times when generation is high for use and when demand on the main grid is low.

Households will be equipped with Sunverge’s Distributed Energy Resource control and orchestration platform to remotely control smart thermostats and grid-interactive water heaters in line with the status of energy stored in Mercedez Benz storage batteries.

The platform will be used for forecasting energy demands and schedule operations of smart home appliances during the utility’s demand response times to reduce consumer energy bills.

GreenMarbles will use its solutions to integrate all smart home solutions (thermostats, locks, lights, garage doors and water sensors) into a single hub. This will allow homes to automatically respond to the homeowner’s activities, location and schedules.

Hannah solar will provide installation services for solar and energy storage batteries whilst Alarm.com will enable consumers to monitor and connect a wide array of smart devices and easily control through a single mobile app.

“Developing the Smart Neighborhood is just one of the ways that we are staying at the forefront of emerging technology while ensuring that we are prepared to continue to meet our customers’ changing energy needs,” said Pedro Cherry, executive vice president of customer service and operations for Georgia Power. “We are proud to unite industry leaders that bring a shared commitment to customer innovation, as well as unmatched industry expertise in their areas, and understand the value that a smart, connected new home offers for homebuyers.”

“We are always looking for new ways to innovate and provide consumer inspired features in our homes,” said Brent Landry, vice president of operations for PulteGroup. “The convergence of multiple, high-quality partners on this particular community is sure to yield some exciting results for each of us and our homeowners.”
