A major city in the US state of Michigan has selected a subsidiary of AV1 Group to design and implement a smart city programme.

XFIRE Smart Systems is designing a $5.5 million framework that the city will use in deploying a smart city pilot.

The project designer is partnering with LED lighting solutions firm Apollo Smart Lights to deploy smart streetlights and a wireless communications network in the Michigan city.

The wireless communications network will allow the city to use a single network to manage multiple applications and remotely monitor infrastructure including street cameras and smart parking, water and electric meters.

The solutions provider will supply its Smart Light Controller to enable the Michigan city to remotely dim or brighten smart LED streetlights in line with weather conditions and the status of the grid network.

By remotely acquiring energy or water usage data from utility customers, the city will reduce operational costs, save time whilst improving management of resources and services to consumers.

A study conducted by Persistence Market Research predicts revenue generation in the global smart city market to grow by 19% over the next decade. The market is expected to generate $1 trillion in revenue by 2019 and $3.48 trillion by 2026.
