Customer Data and Innovation

Climate One director Greg Dalton asks a panel of smart grid leaders how the smart grid will ultimately change the way information is perceived and managed within households and utilities companies. Dian Gureneich, former commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission, points out that data will be readily available to the customers because “the customer [owns] the data.” Innovation, she states, will come from the non-utilities companies that provide the technology to digest energy usage information.

The panelists discussing smart grids include:
Dian Grueneich, Former Commissioner, California Public Utilities Commission
Mark Duvall, Director of Electric Transportation and Energy Storage, Electric Power Research Institute
Ted Howes, Former Energy Lead, IDEO
