The 29th Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT)

The 29th Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) took place from September 5th till 9th, 2016 in Prague. The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Research Centre Rez, two principal institutes engaged in the research of thermonuclear fusion and fusion technologies within the Czech Republic.

The biennial meeting was held in the Prague Congress Centre and was visited by over 950 scientists, engineers, industry representatives and exhibitors from all over the world.

The scientific program included a wide range of topics in the field and discussions about experimental fusion devices and supporting facilities as well as diagnostics, data acquisition and remote participation including the analysis of material technology and much more.

Delegates within the symposium could also participate in a competition for the 2016 SOFT Innovation Prize, which aims to reward outstanding researchers or industries trying to find new solutions (possibly with wider applications) for the huge challenges of fusion.

At SOFT 2016, a meeting of representatives of the Spanish and Czech fusion community also took place. The Spanish delegation headed by His Excellency Ambassador Pedro Calvo-Sotel presented a proposal on cooperation within the planned Czech-Spanish cooperation on the IFMIF-DONES project.

Part of the social program was inter alia, a classical concert, which was held at the Prague Crossroads, which is in the Deconsecrated Church of St. Anna in the Old Town. A Gala Dinner also took place on both floors of Žofín Palace. GUARANT International ensured comprehensive technical support for the symposium.
