This discussion by Robert Block on the Tamarkin, et al patents as assigned to USCL was made in 2010 and therefore Mr. Block only discusses the home energy display based on the first patent granted in 2008. Since that time, two more patents have been granted with key claims regarding machine to machine telecommunications, utility billing system, demand response signal and control system, smart thermostats, electric vehicle charging stations and mobile devices such as smart phones as part of the machine to machine communications topology.
